Overall Requirements
UDI Awards of Excellence are open to all UDI Members in good standing. Submissions for the Awards can be self-nominated or independently nominated. Qualifying projects will have gained occupancy by June 30, 2024.
Winning projects will be awarded to the UDI members who developed the project. You may submit an entry on a Member's behalf if you are not a UDI member.
You will be asked to submit the project name and location, the developer's name and contact, a description of why the Nominee is worthy of this award (200 words), a project summary (500 words), and six (6) high-resolution photographs and/or multimedia. Please limit all other descriptions to a maximum of 500 words. If you enter a project in multiple categories please adapt your submissions to suit each category.
Any imagery submitted will be saved in UDI Archives for future use of Award promotions and communications.

Mixed UseGROUP
MIXED USE COMMERCIAL
Description
Celebrating excellence in a single use commercial building or a mixed-use commercial building complex containing a combination of retail, office, medical, office tech and/or hotel. This award honours projects that enhance the vitality and attractiveness of commercial districts and innovative workplace environments. These developments showcase innovative design, tenant mix, and placemaking strategies that create memorable experiences for tenants and visitors and contribute to the economic vitality of the surrounding area. Can include leased or strata commercial and retail development.
MIXED USE RESIDENTIAL LOW RISE

Recognizing projects that successfully integrate diverse uses such as residential, commercial, retail, and recreational spaces within a single development up to 6 storeys. These projects demonstrate innovative design and planning strategies that create vibrant, dynamic urban environments, promoting connectivity and enhancing the overall urban experience.
MIXED USE RESIDENTIAL MID RISE

Highlighting outstanding achievements in industrial development, this category recognizes projects that demonstrate excellence in design, functionality, and sustainability within the industrial sector. These developments contribute to economic growth, job creation, and innovation while minimizing environmental impact and promoting efficient resource utilization.
Ground OrientedGROUP
GROUND ORIENTED HOUSING
Description
Recognizing exemplary projects in Ground Oriented Housing including gentle density options such as duplexes and townhouses (including stacked townhouses), typically ranging from 2-3 storeys. Each home features individual exterior access, ensuring privacy and ease of entry.
To qualify for this category, a development must comprise a minimum of 10 homes.

Description
Celebrating multi-family residential strata projects up to 6 storey buildings that offer a harmonious blend of community living and modern comfort. These projects provide convenient access to amenities and boast shared spaces that enhance the quality of life for all.

Celebrating multi-family residential strata projects between 7-14 storey buildings that offer a harmonious blend of community living and modern comfort. These projects provide convenient access to amenities and boast shared spaces that enhance the quality of life for all.

Purpose Built RentalGROUP
PURPOSE BUILT RENTAL LOW RISE
Description
This award celebrates excellence in the development of rental properties up to 6 storeys designed specifically to meet the needs of tenants. These developments prioritize affordability, quality, and long-term sustainability, providing safe, comfortable, and inclusive housing options for individuals and families within the community.
Can be a mix of market and below market rental and may include commercial on the ground floor.

Description
Celebrating projects featuring extraordinary and innovative social, economic and environmental components that go above and beyond any requirements imposed by legislation. May include heritage restoration, creative housing model, construction methodology (e.g. pre-fabrication), smart home/office future proofing, parking infrastructure for EV/autonomous vehicles, unique materials, building for resilience etc.

NON-MARKET/SOCIAL HOUSING PARTNERSHIPS
Description
This award honours multi-family residential projects designed in partnership with private and non-profit sectors, government health authorities, ministries and community groups that provide a residential assisted housing option for the social good.
May include low income and/or assisted housing, co-op housing, SRO, student housing, and other alternative housing forms.

Description
Celebrating outstanding achievements in a building or building complex intended for seniors and/or healthcare purposes with attention to safety, accessibility, socialization, comfort, personalization and a supportive environment.

Recognizing any completed phase of a multi-phased comprehensively designed community. Consideration will be given to livability, mix of affordability, amenities to live, work and play, sustainability measures etc. These projects prioritize community engagement, social responsibility, and sustainable practices, fostering a sense of belonging and enhancing the quality of life for residents and stakeholders.
